Three victories in the past week pushed defending national champion Delaware Club another notch higher in this week’s WCLA (Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates) Division I coaches poll, released today.
The No. 7 Blue Hens (8-0) are one of just two remaining undefeated teams in the nation, along with Michigan Club, which retained its hold on the No. 1 spot in the ranking.
Delaware posted three wins over Mid-Atlantic Women’s Lacrosse League (MAWLL) opponents, defeating Maryland Club, Towson Club and No. 13 Penn State Club.
No. 8 North Carolina Club, also a member of the MAWLL, moved up two spots this week after posting wins over No. 10 Virginia Club and No. 15 Virginia Tech Club.
In Division II, No. 1 Denver Club handed No. 3 Air Force its first loss of the year, winning 6-3 to maintian its claim to the top spot. Four new teams entered the poll this week: No. 14 New Hampshire Club, No. 15 Iowa State, No. 18 Elon Club and No. 20 High Point Club.
The regular season concludes this week as leagues determine their champions and automatic qualifiers for the 2018 US Lacrosse WCLA National Championships. The full field for the championships will be announced on Wednesday, April 18.
The WCLA features 82 Division I teams and 149 Division II teams that compete under the US Lacrosse umbrella. The 2018 season will conclude with the US Lacrosse WCLA D-I and D-II national championships in Round Rock, Texas, May 9-12.
