With limited games by ranked teams in the past week, there were minimal changes in the newest WCLA (Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates) Division I and II coaches polls, released today.
Michigan Club and Denver Club maintained their No. 1 positions. Michigan, which has not played since February 18, does not return to action until March 24. Denver Club recorded an 18-1 win over Colorado School of Mines in its only contest.
Colorado Club and Cal Poly were the biggest movers in this week’s Division I poll, climbing three spots each after registering wins against ranked opponents. Colorado moved into a tie at No. 3 following its 10-6 win over No. 10 Colorado State, while Cal Poly climbed to No. 5 after defeating No. 9 UCLA, 14-13.
In total, six of the top eight teams in Division I and nine of the top 10 in Division II were idle this past week. Despite being among those that played no games, Providence jumped three spots to No. 7 in the Division II poll.
There were no newcomers in the Division I ranking, while No. 13 St. Thomas, No. 19 Cortland Club, and No. 20 Dayton joined the Division II ranking for the first time this season.
The WCLA features 82 Division I teams and 149 Division II teams that compete under the US Lacrosse umbrella. The 2018 season will conclude with the US Lacrosse WCLA D-I and D-II national championships in Round Rock, Texas, May 9-12.
